Well, I just got done making more pogs and underlays, and I've come to a realization: Lava is really frickin' hard to doodle up.The Lava pattern that comes with Paint Shop Pro, unfortunately, looks something like red pancake syrup poured over darker red pancake syrup. Real lava doesn't look anything like it. It's a whole smattering of yellows and oranges, with some black or dark gray chunks of crust floating on top wherever the lava's cooling off a bit. It's molten rock, so you kind of have to expect that. So, being as committed to details as I am, I Googled up a bunch of lava photos, copy-pasted them into PSP and went to work. And, well, here's all that I came up with: Yeah, I'm not completely satisfied with it. It doesn't have a lot of that black, rocky crust and the tiles don't quite mesh together seamlessly. I'll have to keep plugging at it if I ever want to cook up the perfect batch of Gametable lava. But in the meantime, it looks a hell of a lot better than red syrup. (Oh, yeah...I whipped up an "on fire" status pog, too. Because sometimes you need an extra reminder that someone splashed you with burning oil and you're still burning to the tune of 1d6 damage per round.... ) Whadayathink?

Hrm, well I can stand it if it's a nuclear explosion! Seriously though I'm not the greatest Rp'er, I'm barely passable. So expect a "actions speak louder then words" approach Maz gave me a bunch of links in between scenes of The Thing. I think I've got the general gist of what's up and can pick up the rest easily enough. As Maz can tell you I'm pretty good at picking up the rules and getting into the story..... Too good! LOL! Yupper Maz found me at Shadowgirlscomic.com (the comic part is rather important lol), where we had a RP forum going. It was a lot of fun but turned to crap lately so I'm free to try other games. And thank ya kindly for the warm welcome. I just hope it's not too warm. I find it disturbing that the second post after mine was a bunch of Lava!

I hope this isn't called stealing - but dragonfable has some real good lava in it. Course, it's flash. Also, Shadow thought it was desert when he glanced at it, lol. _________________ Follow me into the Darkness; Let me hear you scream

So when does Shadow plan on actually gracing this subforum with his presence, anyway?
Anyhoo, in respect to Tain and any other new players who may take up a character with lineage in the House of Ainsley (and saints know we could use one or two more...), I recommenced work on the new Ainsley family tree last night. This is but a sample below, a branch of the tree encompassing two or three generations (including the final lord of the bloodline himself). So you can imagine how bloody huge the entire family tree will look by the time I'm done with it, considering that the entire House of Ainsley--from the latest Ainsleys (Jana and Josia) all the way back to the progenitor, Bardos Ainsley I--goes back about two- to three-hundred years. And, of course, that's including all the siblings and branch-offs; thank badness I saw fit to throw in a little inbreeding here and there, or else the family tree would have been even more massive.

I'm planning on doing something with those red lines, of course. They're ten pixels wide, so I'm thinking of layering on some 2-pixel-wide gold stripes centered in the lines, to give 'em a snazzy flair.
How does it look so far? |

Once again, I return only to depart again. I've been pretty well occupied recently with a combination of working, getting sick, working, working around the house and getting sucked into Star Wars: Rise of the Republic, a pretty sweet total conversion mod for that old standby game, Neverwinter Nights. More on this later. Suffice it to say that I don't regret downloading and installing it, and you NWN players probably won't regret it either. I also uploaded something else to my Deviant Art account. It just goes to show that I like to put a lot of thought behind anything and everything that I put into a RPG campaign (including this one), even if there's a chance that the players will never come across and/or appreciate my work. And with that, I'm late for work. See y'all in the morning, with any luck....

| Oh, bloody hell. So of course my internet would go down for a few days or so. And we just had someone at work get fired a week and a half ago for stealing, so that makes things a little harder on all of us. And I doubt that the fired cashier will ever swing by and give back the money she owes me.... But anyway, I'm back, and I'll get caught up on everybody and everything today. Pinky promise. Also, while I was slumming around without my internet, I finally got around to watching The Animatrix. In a nutshell, it's worth a hell of a lot more than the $5 I paid for it on eBay. There are nine shorts to watch (including one story in two parts), and all eight stories are connected to the whole overarching Matrix story in some way or another, and a few of those stories ( Final Flight of the Osiris, The Second Renaissance, Kid's Story, A Detective Story) tie directly to characters or events depicted in the movies...and most of the stories don't have happy endings. Not that downer endings are bad, of course; the Greeks were the first to elevate tragedies to an art form, and after watching that invincible Neo lay the smack down on everything in creation, it's refreshing to be reminded that the human race is the underdog in the Matrix epic, not the machines. And that means that the Machines probably should get to kill a bunch of brutally oppressed humans every now and then, just for the story's sake. The Animatrix clips are all on YouTube, if you're too cheap to buy the DVD. And that includes my favorite of the bunch, Final Flight of the Osiris. The beginning katana spar is pretty saucy, so if your family's the Puritanical sort, hide the kids. Yeah...having that kind of sexiness in the kick-off really makes you hope that the clip has a happy ending...which makes the fates that awaits Jue, Thaddeus and the rest of the crew even more profound, doesn't it? Okay, I'm off to bed. See y'all in eight hours or so!

I absolutely love that DVD. I didn't buy, have been wanting to for a long time, but i rented it way back when; and I've been a fan ever since. Pity, cos now I only remember snippets. *sigh* I'll have to watch it again. _________________ Follow me into the Darkness; Let me hear you scream

I think it was the one where you thought they were in feudal japan, but then you realised it was just a simulator, or something like that and the female lead was a total baddass. I wasn't too much a fan of the CG animated ones. _________________ Follow me into the Darkness; Let me hear you scream

Well, there was only one CG animation (Final Flight of the Osiris); the rest were more or less anime style animations. And some of those animated shorts (like Beyond) actually looked hand-drawn. But yeah, the feudal Japan one would be Program, where she thinks her crewmate in the simulation is out to betray Zion (when he was just a simulacrum--not her actual teammate--and the whole thing was a test of her loyalty to Zion). And then after jacking out she ended up punching that guy in the teeth and walking out. They did a good job animating her heavy breathing after she jacked out, too. I just thought it was a nice touch how well they did that.

LOL, yeah that's the one. I'm more of an anime girl than a CG girl, so I'm totally biased. Course, when you have CG in an animated style..... *pants* _________________ Follow me into the Darkness; Let me hear you scream

So I assume you liked Beyond too...the little anime-style story where the teen girl loses her cat, and the kids tell her about the "haunted house," which turns out to be a big glitch in the Matrix, so before too long the kids (and the teen girl, and her cat) are all using the glitchy area as their own little playground...suspending themselves in midair, breaking bottles and watching them reintegrate, and so on. So naturally the Machines have to come rushing in, reconfigure the area (under the guise of exterminating a massive rat infestation) and debrief the kids and the girl. So the kids lose their magical playground, which sucks, but it was fun while it lasted.... Those Agents are always ruining things, huh? At least they didn't have to shoot anyone this time around....
