Yeah, well, this Power Rangers movie's different.  Right from the opening scene, you get the distinct impression that all the schlock and campiness from all the old Power Rangers movies and TV shows just went out the window, and aside from the odd comedic moment, things get serious and even a bit dark from there onward.


And much of that comes from making Zordon a flawed warrior-mentor rather than an all-knowing sage.  And for the first time in forever, Rita Repulsa is A) creepy, B) more than a little scary and C) actually pretty frickin' dangerous for once.  Making her the first Green Ranger before she turned on the rest of the team and killed them all helped, of course.


...so yeah, not a typical Power Rangers movie.  Take a bow, Elizabeth Banks!  

Also, obligatory hero walk! And all the chop-socky kung fu action that we've come to expect from all things Power Rangers! Yay!
