| Have any of you been keeping track of weather reports in Australia lately? So Cyclone Yasi has been all over Queensland for a few days now. It's a Category 5...about as serious as a storm gets. Wraith has mentioned more than once that she and Shadow are in the Sydney Time Zone. Queensland happens to be in Sydney Time too. And I'm starting to wonder why we haven't heard from Wraith for a while.... Does anyone know exactly where in Australia Wraith and Shadow live? Here's hoping they're not standing in seawater up to their waists with the power knocked out, or anything like that. Let us know if everything's all right, Wraith. | |

| Relax, I'm okay I actually live about two hours up the coast from Sydney, so we're getting balmy 40C temps at the moment with almost no breeze But I live on the coast, so its a little cooler than the city itself. Yes, Yasi was a tremendous storm, still raging somewhat, but dying down more so now. It hit yesterday - it was devastating to those in queensland. I hate to see what happened in Venuatu (sp?). Needless to say, all of Aus will be feeling the effects of this one | |

| I would think so. It's been five years since we had Hurricane Katrina blow through, and parts of Louisiana and Mississippi are still recovering from it. Katrina hit Category 5 too, soon after entering the Gulf of Mexico...just in time to flatten half of New Orleans and Biloxi, pretty much. (Heh...my only real experience with Vanuatu was when a dorky, porn-addicted friend of mine stayed at my place back in St. Louis, waited till I went to work and ran up a $300 phone bill by calling a phone sex line in Vanuatu. He wasn't my friend after that. So that little petty part of me is hoping that Cyclone Yasi pushed all of Vanuatu's phone sex stations into the ocean. And if it did, thanks, Yasi! ) So how has life in Wraithville been lately, other than losing more chefs and getting more workload? | |

| Considering that you took 18 days to reply to that, yes. I'd say that your internet is not in a very convenient state right now. How do things look now? | |

| Well *sigh*
I was sitting here, lamenting the fact that I couldn't even check my email. I have hotmail - with copius amounts of advertising and the banner ads were taking up all the time in the world just to show up. And you know what happens when they don't come up..... your page might as well not exist. Sigh....
I haven't been on my beloved computer for so long my typing skills have really tanked. At least my fingers have found the 'backspace' button quickly and efficiently enough, lol.
Anyways, I was lamenting away... and then I thought to myself, I've got a full signal (I have wireless) and yet things were still buggy, beyond even my famous ability to just let things go.... and then a light bulb went off.
If i've got full signal - and things are still buggy - then what if its my wifi connection that's actually to blame. I mean, yes, the tower was down for a few weeks and I saw the evidence in the signal strength, but the signal's come back the last couple of days -
JESUS! You'd think my fingers had dyslexia or something.... come on!
Anyways, So I had the genius idea to actually plug the device into my computer directly. Which completely misses the point of a wireless device, but oh well. And what do you know... its not perfect, but its a hell of a lot better than before!!
And before you ask, a wired account is out of the question, too difficult and also too costly for little ol' me.
So yeah....
And continuing on the Yasi theme.... what the hell do retailers think they are if they raise the cost of their produce a DAY after yasi comes through and then blames it on cyclone?
I mean COME ON! It was probably produce from a week BEFORE that! Hallelujah!! | |

| Kind of like how petroleum companies say "Oh, there was a battle in Sandlotabad last week, so it's okay for us to raise gasoline prices by 75 cents"? Friggin' extortion-happy opportunists.... Yeah, I hear people telling me "Oh, you should get wireless so you can put your computer anywhere in the house". But no, my home computer's staying wired; the internet connection's more reliable that way, and you don't have problems like this popping up. I'm still saving up for that WiFi-ready laptop, though, so I can have that tabletop Game Master's aid that I've been wanting for years and the ability to access Illusion Vale (along with other verboten websites) from work. Come that day, Chris (not Craig, Chris) the hub master can kiss my ass. | |
