Hey, Wraith. Is it tomorrow yet? Very Happy

I just woke up and I have to be at work in two hours. What should I eat for breakfast?

I just had a big "LOL" at reading that. The part with the guinea pigs, I mean. Laughing

Also, I just collected the eggs from the chook house and ate cold pizza with macaroni salad. So screw both y'alls. Razz

So my web browser took a dive while I was picking through Jazzy's last post and replying. I'm wondering if I should jump ahead and get you while I have you here, though. Where has Jaz been lately, anyhow? :?

Alas, I just wandered back inside...just in time to go to work. Why did Audrey have me working this eleven-day stretch? I don't get a friggin' day off until next Monday. Sad

At least the overtime should help. I might even come away with enough to get that laptop and a new printer for this compy. Stay tuned.

Right... so...

In my humble and honest opinion. The 3rd movie rocked. The first was AWESOME and the second sucked major a$$.

Also, tomorrow I have TAFE. The day after and the day after I have off.

So... tomorrow is tuesday - and I have wednesday/thurs off. Thurs is out cos of errands and whatnot, but I can do gametable on wed. If anyone's on. I believe that would make it your tuesday night?

Well, time for me to take a little vacation time Smile Three weeks (more or less) in sunny California with the other half of the family.

Not sure how much time I'll have online, but I'll try to get my Champions story spun up for everyone. Who knows, maybe my missing giant Jarl and my meanie Queen will make an appearance... ;p

See you soon.

Just be sure to get a laptop that is good enough to play champions online! a Superhero MMO is just what you need!

i built maz using the "behemoth" powerset, basically an inv/ss tanker, and played him through the tutorial slowly plodding my way through doing my low tanky style damage. then i bought the werewolf device which basically lets you turn at will into a claws/regen scrapper.

i've been playing mostly with a friend from the WIFOM forums but i thought this could be a way to get together in a game again, especially since it's free to play.

Sorry I didn't make it on the other day. We've been having really bad weather and I have wireless internet... in a bad coverage area.

Don't ask. It was cheaper at the time...

so yeah... couldn't get on. Plus I got sick and didn't feel like doing anything, much less using my brain.

And... well... tafe was good. I'll put the piccies up as soon as I muster up some enthusiasm. I'm doing poultry now. Yay. And also a MAJOR project/assignment. so won't have too much time atm. Prob won't impact what I do here tho Smile

Well, this sucks. My father's an air conditioning repairman, yet this house has a 20+-year-old air conditioner that just burned up and quit again.

Oh, cruel irony.

I should probably shell out $2000 and buy a new air conditioner just so we don't have to keep going through this nonsense every month.

Also, my second cousin Sam's finally gone and back in San Angelo now, so I don't have to babysit him anymore! He came up here with the family reunion that happened three weeks ago, and he stayed here most of the time. As usual, Dad didn't give me any advance notice, just the usual "Oh, hi there, Sam's going to be staying with us for who-knows-how-long, so...surprise!" treatment. And Sam's a compulsive liar on top of that...unspeakably annoying. I'm glad he's gone now. I just about sunk an entire paycheck into feeding the goofball. Rolling Eyes

My life's a joke sometimes.

Also, Wraith, GD and I are still wondering when you're going to post pics of your Christmas knife set. *nudge nudge* Very Happy

Also, I've been quiet because of First Monday being back in town, and I have to go to the doctor tomorrow because this poison ivy rash has been around for a week and now I'm breaking out with hives. It's even started taking over the right half of my face, which simply will not do.

Wish me luck in getting this cleared up right away. I'm feeling pretty miserable right now, and it's been costing me sleep. I really want to get back here full-time, though. Stay tuned. Sad

Big poopy time.

So my house had a blackout back on Tuesday, and now my computer is having problems with my D: drive. My D: drive is where I kept my Gametable and my Campaign Cartographer (which is what I use to doodle up those maps of all the cities, towns and countrysides), along with a ton of games like Neverwinter Nights, Age of Conan and The Sims 2.

Gametable Nights! - Page 3 BigPoopyTime

As you can see, the OS is seeing that my D: drive is there. But it's not reading the contents of the drive or the drive's volume name ("Gameland", and not "Local Disk", I assure you), and my OS keeps urging me to format the D: drive (which I'd much rather avoid until all other options have failed). So the file table that tells the OS what's on the drive got torn up somehow.

The E: drive is just a partition of my C: drive set aside for system restore point data. The F: drive is my DVD-ROM drive. And the G: drive is my Seagate FreeAgent 1.5 terabyte external drive, which my OS is also failing to recognize. Sad to say, this is very common; my big Seagate drive fails more often than a blind gunman. Don't ever buy one of those external drives. They're crap.

What isn't crap, however, is my Seagate FreeAgent 320 gigabyte external drive, which is my L: drive, the drive I take with me to work and my best hope if it turns out that I have to reformat the D: drive. That drive's more dependable than a cast-iron workhorse. Alas, I didn't copy Campaign Cartographer or The Sims 2 to my L: drive, but I did copy Gametable, Neverwinter Nights, Age of Conan and Scorched Earth 3D. Even if I created some pogs and terrain bits between now and the last time I copied Gametable to my little porta-drive, I almost certainly uploaded those pogs to my website; one massed download from my website and I'll have my entire Gametable library back. At most, I've lost some of Karnoz and Keitha's progress through the Bountiful Burrows of Braddenlock, since I think I last saved around the time they killed Debbin the Deranged. Last time we had played, they had just killed the earth elemental in the swampy cavern with the huge tree root. So I can bring everything back up to speed easily enough.

Of course, if my Iolo System Mechanic can get my OS to read my D: drive again, none of this will be necessary. But I will be seeing if I can return my 1.5 TB drive to Walmart, use the money to buy two more of those 320 GB externals and use those for my computer back-ups instead, one for my C: drive and one for my D: drive. Then we'll all live happily ever after.

Fingers crossed, peeps.

Gametable Nights! - Page 3 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Gametable Nights!   Gametable Nights! - Page 3 Icon_minitimeFri Sep 02, 2011 7:40 am

I GOT MY FILES BACK! I'm back in business! cheers

So I was searching around for solutions to my problem, and along the way I did some more searching around for reasons why Seagate's FreeAgent Desk external drive is such a hunk of crap. That led me to the Seagate site itself, and that's where I happened across Seagate File Recovery for Windows. I downloaded the demo version, installed it and ran it.

SFR took a little over three days to scan my entire G: Drive, that 1.5 Terabyte monster that fails like an old Yugo and which Windows XP had written off as "unreadable". And when SFR was done, it pulled up a huge list of lost files on that drive. It even dug up files that I had deleted half a year back. Unfortunately, it couldn't dig up all of my recorded video files for The Matrix Online which were lost the last time this drive crapped out, but that's because I was stupid enough to reformat the drive instead of...oh, you know, Googling around for solutions so I could have found Seagate File Recovery back then. That's pretty much what formatting a hard drive is supposed to do: it chucks everything on that disk into oblivion and starts over. I could have preserved a lot of memories from The Matrix Online if I had found SFR a long time ago. Sad

So then I went to recover the files from my G: Drive, but I had to shell out $99 for the full version before it would let me do that. Ouch. But since you can't really put a price tag on your old files, I clenched my teeth and bought it. SFR asked me where I wanted all those recovered files to be saved, and it strongly advised me to save them on another hard drive. Well, duh. What am I going to do, save them on the same old corrupt hard drive which lost them in the first place? So I hooked up one of my smaller and more reliable external solid state hard drives, my 500 Gigabyte Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex drive (which then became my L: Drive).

Another day later, I had all my files back, and I rejoiced loudly. But I wasn't done yet; the D: Drive--my secondary internal drive--was the more important of the two corrupted drives, and it had most of my games, all of my music, my Campaign Cartographer, my Gametable and a whole mess of other sentimental stuff (yes, including my old porn stash because I'm only human, damn it). So I ran SFR on my D: Drive and immediately started getting read errors. SFR advised me that I should probably take the drive out and send it to Seagate's labs. I paused for thought for a while, then said, "No way. I paid $99 for this bitch, I have faith in it after what I saw it do with that G: Drive, and it is going to work." So I followed through and commenced the file recovery on my D: Drive.

My faith in SFR was repaid. Another day later, I had my list of files recovered from my D: Drive. A lot of files were too corrupt to recover, but the good news is that none of them were essential, none of them were irreplaceable and not one of them had anything to do with my music files, Gametable or Campaign Cartographer. Another half a day later, all of those recovered files made it to my L: Drive too. So then I formatted my D: Drive and my G: Drive and didn't look back.

It's also now that I've noticed how very tiny my D: Drive is. It's over five years old, and it's only 120 gigabytes. And both of my sturdy and reliable external drives dwarf it, with my FreeAgent Go drive weighing in at 320 GB and my FreeAgent GoFlex drive weighing in at 500 GB. And I now ask myself, "Do I even need this D: Drive anymore?"...and I don't think I do. I might even be better off taking it out and filling its bay with one of my old 5.25" floppy drives, so I can begin the process of transferring the contents of all of my old floppy disks to CDs or DVDs. Some of those old floppy disks were corrupt and unreadable, the last time I checked. I wonder if Seagate File Recovery will work on them too.

So know that there's hope for you guys if any of your hard drives get corrupted or otherwise unreadable. Just talk to me. I think I can help you.

I got my frickin' files back. cheers cheers cheers
