I, Akaron Corvus, under the auspices of our lady, the most benevolent Wraith, do render into script here all lore pertaining to the Vampyres of the Vale.

PostSubject: On vampyric biology   on the Vampyres, most enigmatic. Icon_minitimeThu Jul 17, 2008 10:19 am

Being as there is no authoritative text on the subject, I, in my office as loremaster, will endeavour to detail and explain the biological facts of the vampyric race. I will keep to basic explanations without delving too deeply into the specifics of the subject of my study, who, due to her age, undoubtedly possesses certain features specific to her alone. My subject in this study was our lady Wraith, who was good enough to allow me to examine her, as much as was appropriate, in order to write this treatise.

Vampyres possess a dual phase biology consisting of a passive state, in which they resemble any member of their original race, although still possessing some vampyric ability, and an aggressive state, in which they assume a truly vampyric form. NOTE: Passive and Aggressive refers merely to the state of the ancient blood magick that makes one a vampyre.

In their aggressive state, a vampyres appearance changes drastically. For the typical, once-human, vampyre the changes consist of the following effects:

-The entirety of the eye turns void-black
-The nails of the fingers lengthen into claws
-The fangs, though present in the passive state, become longer, thicker, and sharper
-The jawline elongates, giving them a longer face, to accomodate the growth in the teeth

different races change differently, but i have no non-former human subjects to examine the change from.

Sunlight is deadly to vampyres, at least until they have reached a certain powerlevel as evidenced by our lady Wraith, who can move in the sun with impunity. A lesser vampyre may travel in the sun, so long as they're entire body is covered, at the cost of their prodigious strength and speed.

Vampyres must feed on living blood, preferably every two days on the total of blood present in a medium sized person, especially when they are young. If they do not feed, they go into a frenzy our lady calls "the hunger" in which they will feed on the nearest available source of blood. During this time their strength and speed increase tenfold and they lose any semblance of sanity in the overwhelming need to feed. Vampyres may not feed from dead blood, as it is poisonous to them.

Reproduction can only occur in the turning of non-vampyres. In order to be turned, the subject must be fed upon by their sire, and then they must in turn feed on their sire. Wraith has forbidden the practice and thus the only new vampyres in the Vale appear as such.

Vampyres are physically equipped to engage in sexual congress, but are unable to either fertilize or be fertilized and thus, as a matter of course, there are no baby vampyres.

Vampyres cannot die of old age, are immune to disease. Their appearance will change subtly over the years and their power will increase, but they will not have truly aged.

That is not say that they are invincible, at lower power they can be killed by direct sunlight. They may also be killed by exposure to pure silver, starvation, and decapitation.

Silver acts as a poison on the vampyre anatomy, A vampyre must treat silver poisoning by feeding on the blood of their sire, otherwise it will prove fatal.

Animals cannot become true vampyres, instead becoming what our lady refers to as "vampberserk" when the animal becomes crazy and needs to feed on blood. A "vampberserk" animal is unable to turn another creature, lacking the intelligence necessary.

-This study was performed and is humbly submitted by Akaron Corvus under the auspices of Blessed Wraith.
